The first bento blog I ever read was Lunch in a box: Building a Better Bento. Since then I have found many others that I enjoy reading… there are so many out there! Some of my favorites include: Adventures in Bentomaking, Bento Central, Lunch in a Box, Cooking Cute, Hapa Bento (just found this one) and of course, An American in Bento (also just recently found). I like the book 501 Bento Box Lunches because it gives easy recipes that are in small quantities. Since I am the only family member that takes bento lunches to work, it is nice not to have to make a recipe for 4 just to have lunch the next day! I also use leftovers from dinners for lunches. Recently, I talked with the woman that runs a local Japanese grocery store. I was telling her about my bento lunches. She asked where she would get some boxes to sell, so I told her about the Daiso website. I was extremely pleased to see that 2 weeks later, she had a selection of 4 different boxes, and some sauce containers! I bought some of each for me and for a friend. I make my lunches at night because time is tight in the morning. I think that the act of making my bento gets my creative side flowing, and actually helps to relax me for the evening.
